Newcomer Youth
Integration Program
Immigrant
youth ages 13-17 who have come to Canada within
the last 2 years have the opportunity to participate
in sessions and recreational activities that enhance
their capacity to make healthy choices in a community
where many choices are possible. This program
will assist young people in integrating into a
new system of life. They will be supported and
educated so that they can cope better with the
stress of life in their new surroundings and culture.
The sessions will act as a bridge between youth
and their community resources, to develop volunteers,
provide new experiences, and job search skills.
Youth will be able to take their experiences and
leadership development skills back to their cultural
groups as a first step to breaking down cultural
barriers and building social competencies. They
will also benefit from improved total health through
the development of positive relationships, and
strong supportive networks.
Ten
week sessions run Sunday afternoons from 2-4pm
at the A.R. Kaufman facility.
Summer session currently ongoing - Wednesdays 2:00-8:00pm.
Fall session begins October 2008
